National Trails Day/Outdoors Day is here! This celebration occurs every year on the first Saturday in June. Trails can be enjoyed by walking, biking, hiking, horseback riding and so much more. Some trails may even lead to other fun activities, such as canoeing, boating and fishing. The possibilities are endless!

To continue enjoying these natural spaces, trails require maintenance, clean-ups and conservation. Be mindful: the next time you're enjoying a trail, pick up any litter you find – because every hand helps!

What are you doing to celebrate National Trails Day/National Get Outdoors Day? If you’re not sure, here are a few ideas…

  • Hiking
Hiking is one of the best ways to enjoy a trail. Every sense will be experiencing something, whether it's seeing new and beautiful sights, or listening to the sounds of nature. Whether you are hiking within the U.S. or somewhere else in the world, there are countless great hiking opportunities.
  • Biking
Instead of being on foot, some prefer experiencing trails on two wheels. This can be very therapeutic, is great exercise and an excellent family activity! Winding roads, or fast declines – whatever your preference, there is a trail for you and your bike!
  • Horseback Riding
Another way to appreciate the great outdoors is horseback riding. Whether you're riding with a saddle or going bareback, there is certainly a trail for you. This is also a fun activity for family and friends, and may even be a fun new experience for some!
  • Dirt Bike Riding
Love adrenaline? Then dirt bikes may be the best trail vehicle for you! Whether you're a professional, amateur, or somewhere in between, the U.S. has dirt bike trails of different skill levels all over the country. Rev up your engines!
  • ATV/OHV/4WD Riding
If two wheels aren't enough for you, ATVs may be an even better option. Though they are wider than dirt bikes, they can still be just as fun. The trails are all different and can fit your riding style and desires. Some of these trails are even an option during winter months!
  • Skiing
Snow can be cold, but no worries…there are still plenty of ways to enjoy it. Skiing is an option, but it may require travel depending on where you live. Try exploring these trail options – they can be fast-paced downhill, or slow and easy cross-country.
  • Snowmobiling
Snowmobiles have skis, but require a lot less work for you than skiing. With the push of a button, you can be skiing right across that fresh powder! If this sounds ideal, snowmobiling might be your way to go. Did you know that some farmers allow snowmobile trails on their property because the land won't get ruined? Luckily, the snow creates a thick layer that protects the ground from being dug up. Find a snowmobile trail near you and bring a group of friends along for the ride!

Also on June 8, 2019, in the Henderson and Las Vegas Area, Nevada there will be free entry into Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, AND free fishing statewide. Fishing spots include all public lakes and ponds. So get outdoors, enjoy the weather, and make memories! Always remember to respect trails by staying on them and pick up after yourself for future visitors and local habitats.

All of these experiences can be fun and exhilarating. Be open to trying new things, and find the trail activities that you enjoy the most. Always be safe and take caution when doing any of these activities – especially when riding on something with an engine!
